‘Alpha’ Beta Gone on first day: Lowest spy universe opening at BO
Yash Raj Films’ highly anticipated action thriller “Alpha,” starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, didn’t have the expected theatrical release. Despite being the first female-centric film in the YRF Spy Universe, its opening day box office performance was disappointing. The film received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, which directly impacted its earnings.
According to preliminary data from box office tracker Sacnilk, “Alpha” collected a net of ₹9.25 crore on its first day in India. The film was released in 7,534 shows across the country, but despite a strong star cast and a big banner, it failed to attract large audiences to theaters. With this performance, “Alpha” has become the lowest opening film in the YRF Spy Universe so far.
Compared to previous films in the spy universe, “Pathan” earned ₹57 crore on its first day, “War 2” ₹52.5 crore, “Tiger 3” ₹44.5 crore, and “War” ₹32.5 crore, while “Tiger Zinda Hai” and “Ek Tha Tiger” also grossed over ₹32 crore on their first day. Consequently, “Alpha” lagged far behind all these films.
Made on a budget of approximately ₹100 to ₹130 crore, the film stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. The film is directed by Shiv Rawail. Upon release, Hrithik Roshan’s surprise cameo as Major Kabir and Bobby Deol’s villainous avatar generated considerable buzz on social media, but despite these attractions, the film failed to register a strong opening at the box office. All eyes are now on the weekend’s earnings, which will determine whether the film can recover from its initial setback.
