Parliament crackdown: Kalyan Banerjee faces suspension for entire monsoon term
New Delhi, July 22: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from Parliament on Wednesday for the remainder of the monsoon session. He has been accused of using unparliamentary language and making indecent remarks against women MPs. After the passage of a motion against Kalyan Banerjee, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until the next day.
After being adjourned twice, the proceedings resumed at 2 pm. During this, Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti informed the House about the written complaint received by Speaker Om Birla from women members. Following this, the House adopted the motion moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal by voice vote amid uproar.
The Presiding Officer Tenneti said that Kalyan Banerjee had used unparliamentary language. Speaker Om Birla has received a written complaint against him. This is objectionable and against the dignity of the House, and the Speaker believes action should be taken against him.
Arjun Ram Meghwal said that he not only made indecent remarks against women members but also misbehaved with them. Therefore, he should be suspended from the proceedings of the House for the remainder of the session.
