Scrub Typhus cases rise in Jaunpur, health officials issue warning
Jaunpur, August 29: The health department has been alerted after four new cases of scrub typhus were found in Jaunpur district of the Uttar Pradesh. According to health department data, a total of six cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed in the district since January. Four new cases have been reported in the past month.
Anticipating an increase in mosquito-borne and other infectious diseases after the rains, the health department has increased surveillance. The emergence of cases of scrub typhus amid the threat of other diseases, including dengue, has raised the health department’s concern. Private hospitals have also reported an increase in patients with fever and other symptoms.
Physician Dr AK Singh stated on Saturday that scrub typhus is a bacterial disease caused by a bacterium called Orientia tsutsugamushi. This disease is spread by the bite of infected mite larvae. He explained that fever and other symptoms can usually appear a few days after the bite.
He advised people to take special precautions during the rainy season. They are advised to maintain cleanliness around the house, prevent the growth of weeds and bushes, and cover their bodies when visiting areas where there is a risk of exposure to infected mites.
Epidemiologist Ziaul Haq confirmed four new cases of scrub typhus in the district. He said the health department has upped vigilance regarding the disease. People have been urged to consult a doctor if they experience persistent fever or symptoms of illness, and not to take medication without medical advice.
