PM Modi speaks to DM, Mayor on rising Ganga waters in Varanasi
Varanasi, September 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation and relief work in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, and inquired about the preparations. On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi spoke separately with district magistrate (DM) Satyendra Kumar and Mayor Ashok Tiwari over the telephone to inquire about the flood situation.
DM Satyendra Kumar provided detailed information on the flood situation in Varanasi. During this, the Prime Minister inquired from the District Magistrate about the river water level and the arrangements being made in the relief camps.
The water levels of the Ganga and Varuna rivers are continuously rising in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. According to the Central Water Commission’s Rajghat gauge site, the Ganga water level was recorded at 70.60 meters at 12 noon on Thursday, while the danger mark is 71.26 meters. The water level is rising by one centimeter per hour.
Prime Minister directed that efforts be made on a war footing to provide relief to those affected by the floods, ensuring they receive the necessary amenities. He emphasized that special care should be taken to minimize inconvenience to the people. He urged that wherever additional relief material is needed, immediate arrangements should be made to expedite the delivery of relief to the people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed that the flood and relief operations be continuously monitored and that the affected people be provided with immediate relief. He also emphasized that the special needs of children, women, and the elderly living in flood relief camps should be addressed.
Prime Minister Modi then inquired with Mayor Ashok Tiwari about the situation in the flood relief camps. He provided guidance regarding the provision of food and other essential amenities in the relief camps.
He inquired from the Mayor about the availability of food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential amenities for those living in the camps.
Prime Minister gave clear instructions that the citizens sheltering in the relief camps should not face any inconvenience and that all basic amenities should be provided in a timely manner.
Emphasizing better management during this time of disaster, the Prime Minister said that all public representatives and municipal councilors should work on the ground in coordination with each other.
He said that public representatives should remain constantly active among the public and ensure that all possible help reaches the victims, so that the impact of this natural disaster can be minimized and immediate relief can be provided to the people.
