Six arrested in inter‑state kidnapping -ransom gang operation in Lucknow

Lucknow, September 20: The Lucknow police commissionerate on Sunday busted an inter‑state kidnapping‑ransom gang, arresting six accused who had abducted a youth by posing as police officers and demanded ransom from his family.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South Mohammad Mushtaq told in a press conference on Sunday that among the accused involved in the gang, Anurag Kumar, Manish Kumar, a resident of Bihar state, Anurag, Lavi Kumar, Deepanshu and Akash, residents of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh have been arrested. The police recovered fake police officer’s ID card, two illegal pistols with three live cartridges, 2.50 lakh rupees in cash, a vehicle, and two license plates.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that their gang includes several notorious criminals from various states. These gangs seek out individuals with significant wealth. After conducting surveillance, they carry out the crime. In this connection, Sudarshan Ghosh, a resident of Saket Apartments in Lucknow, was kidnapped by this gang. The arrested accused, a resident of Lucknow, is close to Sudarshan. He had informed the gang about his activities and his considerable wealth. Upon receiving the full information, the gang devised a plan and kidnapped Sudarshan Ghosh in a car on September 12 while he was leaving his office, brandishing a fake police officer ID card. The accused then had him call his wife and demand a ransom. After receiving ₹13 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewelry as ransom, the arrested accused left Sudarshan near Shaheed Path and fled to different states.

The DCP stated that the accused admitted that they use vehicles with license plates from the same state or district to avoid detection. The accused were camping in Lucknow with the intention of committing another major crime when they were apprehended by police. Police records show Akash and Anurag have previous criminal cases registered against them. Legal action has been taken against them and they have been sent to jail.

The DCP Mushtaq has announced a reward of ₹25,000 for the Krishna Nagar police station team that successfully uncovered this incident.
