
🔥 ABVP triumphs in DUSU polls, independent candidate upsets for VP
New Delhi, September 19: In the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2026, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) like last year won the posts of President, Secretary and Joint Secretary, while Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the post of Vice President.
As per the election results declared on Saturday, ABVP’s Yash Dabas secured 24,576 votes for the post of President, defeating NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena (22,523 votes) by 2,053 votes. ABVP’s Riya Chawri won the post of Secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh won the post of Joint Secretary.
Independent Deepanshu Shokeen secured 30,615 votes for the post of Vice President, defeating ABVP’s Ishu Maurya (16,910). Thus, NSUI, which had won the vice-president position in 2025, failed to win any of the four key positions this time.
For the secretary position, Riya Chawri received 21,650 votes, while NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary received 14,869 votes. For the joint secretary position, ABVP’s Lakshyaraj Singh secured 16,615 votes, while SCS’s Vishesh Yadav received 15,778 votes. The margin of victory was just 837 votes.
Thus, of the four key DUSU positions, ABVP won three, while an independent candidate won one, while NSUI failed to secure a single seat.
This year, DUSU elections saw a voter turnout of 40.46 percent, the highest in the last three years.
After being elected president, Dabas expressed his gratitude to the students and said he would continue to work for them throughout the year. He stated that his first priority would be to conduct a security audit of every PG and hostel to prevent incidents like the one at Satya Niketan in the future.
Elected Joint Secretary Lakshyaraj Singh said that ABVP had given a chance to a candidate from Rajasthan after 12 years, and with the support of Rajasthan’s students and classmates, he won.
Newly elected Secretary Riya Chawadi expressed her happiness over the victory and expressed her gratitude to the organization, students, team, and family.
