Centre orders early payment salaries and pensions on Sept 25 ahead of bank strike

New Delhi, 24 September: The Central Government has directed that the September salaries and pensions of central government employees and pensioners be released on September 25, ahead of the proposed three-day strike by public sector bank employees from September 28 to 30.

In an Office Memorandum (OM) issued on September 23, the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance informed ministries and departments about the advance payment of salaries and pensions to central government employees and pensioners. In view of the three-day nationwide strike by bank officers and employees, the Department of Expenditure instructed ministries and departments to release the payments on September 25, ahead of the scheduled date.

The Ministry said the decision had been taken to prevent any delay in the payment of salaries, wages and pensions in view of the possibility of disruption to banking transactions during the three-day strike. Accordingly, central government employees and pensioners will receive their salaries and pensions for September 2026 on September 25 itself, ahead of the nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.

It may be noted that the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. One of the key demands of the bank unions is the implementation of a five-day working week in the banking sector.
