Fake uniform crimes exposed: SIT report leads to rewards on ex SHO, accomplice
Jaunpur, September 24: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has intensified its action in cases of extortion and robbery under the guise of police uniform in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. However, based on the SIT report investigating two separate cases registered at the Jalalpur and Sureri police stations, the superintendent of police (SP) Kunwar Anupam Singh has announced a reward of 25,000 rupees each for two accused, including the then station house officer (SHO) of Sureri, Sub-Inspector Divya Prakash Singh.
According to the SP, several police teams are raiding possible hideouts to arrest the accused then station in-charge. Meanwhile, two accused named in the Jalalpur case have surrendered in court amid the police search.
In both cases, the police have so far arrested three accused, including two suspended constables. The arrested accused include suspended constables Satyendra Kumar Gaur and Vishnu Singh, both posted at Sureri police station. Based on the facts revealed in the SIT investigation, the police are also investigating the role of other suspects.
Rajendra Dubey, a resident of Baragaon, Commissionerate Varanasi, has been named as an accused in the case registered at Sureri police station on September 22. Additionally, three or four unidentified policemen in plain clothes and Vansh Narayan Giri, who requested the money be transferred to his account, have also been named as accused in the case.
According to the police, the victim alleged that on September 13, Rajendra Dubey called him and asked him to meet. Three or four men in plain clothes, who were present there, identified themselves as policemen and took him away in a vehicle.
It is alleged that approximately ₹1.65 lakh was extorted and the money was transferred to Vansh Narayan Giri’s account via UPI.
The SP Singh stated on Thursday that the then station chief, Divya Prakash Singh, was suspended after the role of the policemen came to light during the investigation. Now, after a reward was announced for his arrest, the police have intensified their search. The investigation is ongoing.
