Lucknow police cracks ‘attempted’ murder case, 5 accused held

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the Lucknow police on Wednesday arrested five accused involved in a deadly pistol attack on a youth outside a farmhouse in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area of Lucknow. The police recovered three illegal pistols and live cartridges from their possession. The accused had allegedly conspired to kill the victim due to a long-standing personal rivalry, told the police.

Addressing the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Amit Kumar Anand said that the case came to light after Anil, a resident of Manpur Lala village, filed a complaint regarding an attack on him on the night of November 1.

According to the complaint, Anil was returning home from Ajit Maurya’s farmhouse situated on Asti Road at around 8 pm. As he was taking his motorcycle out of the farmhouse gate, an unknown man approached him and asked for water. Moments later, two other men emerged from nearby bushes and launched an attack with pistols.

In a desperate attempt to save himself, Anil tried to snatch one of the weapons from the attackers. During the struggle, the pistol accidentally discharged, causing bullet injuries to his hand and stomach. Despite being wounded, Anil abandoned his motorcycle and ran back inside the farmhouse. The attackers allegedly chased him with the intention of killing him, but he managed to escape and survived the attack.

Following the complaint, BKT police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, police identified the accused as Uttam Singh of Manpur Lala village and Shubham Rajput, Shivam Rajput, Shivam Pal, and Ajay Yadav, all residents of Tikari village.

Acting on specific information, a police team conducted a raid at a vacant plot near the service lane adjoining the Mampur Bana underpass on Wednesday and arrested all five accused. During the operation, police seized illegal firearms and cartridges from their possession.

Police investigation revealed that the attack was the result of an old enmity. On October 22, Anil had allegedly abused and assaulted Uttam Singh and his family members while under the influence of alcohol. A case had already been registered in connection with that incident.

Seeking revenge, Uttam Singh allegedly hatched a conspiracy along with his associates to eliminate Anil. The group reportedly planned the armed ambush outside the farmhouse and carried out the attack with the intention of murdering him.

Police officials further disclosed that Uttam Singh has a criminal history, with previous cases already registered against him.

All five accused have been arrested and sent to jail. Appreciating the swift action of the police team, DCP North Amit Kumar Anand announced a cash reward of ₹25,000 for the officers involved in cracking the case and arresting the accused.

The investigation into the case is continuing, and police are probing whether the accused were involved in any other criminal activities in the region.
