Ancient Kushan period evidence surfaces in Raebareli
Raebareli, July 29: An ongoing archaeological survey in Raebareli district, Uttar Pradesh, uncovered several historical and important archaeological evidence on Wednesday. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team from Lucknow, calling the findings significant, has called for excavations at the mound.
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, in Oi village of Harchandpur in the district, a team led by Assistant Archaeologist Dr Manoj Yadav conducted an in-depth search inside a tunnel dug in a field, yielding several important pieces of evidence in the first phase. During the survey, the team found a large quantity of ancient clay pots, pitchers, incense burners, and ancient bricks. These archaeological evidence indicate that important historical evidence exists in this area. The team highlighted the need for further in-depth surveys and excavations.
Dr Manoj Yadav, who led the survey team, said that Oi village has previously been listed by the Archaeological Department. The current survey suggests its historical significance dates back to the Kushan period. The archaeological evidence found during the survey appears to be from the Kushan period, which will be confirmed after further investigation.
Dr Yadav stated that only after scientific testing will the historical age and archaeological significance of these remains be determined. The team also collected several other pieces of evidence from Abhishek Maurya, a resident of the village, which will be examined.
It is noteworthy that a tunnel was formed due to soil erosion in Oi village of Harchandpur in the district, which the ASI team has been surveying since Tuesday. A revenue team and police were present at the scene.
