
Ballia tragedy: Four children drown in Ganga during Mundan ceremony
Ballia, May 3: In a tragic incident during a Mundan ceremony at Shivrampur Ghat (Byasi) in Ballia City Kotwali area on Sunday morning, four young men and women, including two teenage girls, drowned in the Ganga River; with the help of local divers and the SDRF team from Gorakhpur, three bodies were recovered while the search for one victim is still underway.
People from the home of Vashishtha Chauhan, a resident of Kalyanipur in the Chitrakoot police station area, had arrived at Shivrampur Ghat (Byasi) in the Ballia City Kotwali area on Sunday morning for the Mundan ceremony. Everything was going well. Meanwhile, while bathing, four girls began drowning. People jumped into the river to save them, but in the process, two young men also drowned. However, two of the four drowning girls were rescued.
Upon receiving news of the drowning of Arjun Chauhan (20), son of Murari Chauhan, Arun Chauhan (19), son of Mohan Chauhan, Harshita Chauhan (17), daughter of Ajit Chauhan, residents of Rampur Bhoj Ratsad Gadwar, and Nandita Chauhan (14), daughter of Ajit Chauhan, a panic erupted on the banks of the Ganges. Relatives and family members alike erupted in outcry. Police arrived and began searching with divers.
The district magistrate MP Singh and the superintendent of police Omveer Singh also arrived at the scene. Officials called in an SDRF team from Gorakhpur.
The Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh stated that, through everyone’s efforts, the bodies of Harshita, Arun, and Nandita have been recovered, while the search for Arjun Chauhan’s body is ongoing.
