
BLW scripts history, manufactures record 65 electric locomotives in July 2026
Varanasi, August 01: The Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh has once again scripted a new chapter of success by manufacturing a record 65 electric locomotives in a single month during July 2026.
The BLW public relations officer said on Saturday that this is the highest ever production of electric locomotives within a month in any financial year. In this major achievement, 44 WAG-9HC freight electric locomotives, 13 WAP passenger electric locomotives and 8 Amrut Bharat electric locomotives were successfully manufactured for Indian Railways.
It is noteworthy that BLW previously set its highest monthly production record by producing 61 electric locomotives in a single month in March 2025, a record that has now been surpassed by the production of 65 locomotives in July 2026.
Since its inception, BLW has manufactured a total of 11,445 locomotives, including 3,109 electric locomotives. This achievement further strengthens BLW’s leading role in the modernization of Indian Railways and the creation of a self-reliant India.
Fulfilling the “Make in India, Make for the World” philosophy, BLW has already exported 182 locomotives to 11 countries, including Mozambique, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Mali, Senegal, Angola, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
The BLW general manager Ashutosh Pant congratulated all officers and employees on this proud achievement, stating that this achievement is the result of the hard work, dedication, team spirit, and excellent work culture of each employee.
He expressed confidence that BLW will also achieve the production target of 468 electric locomotives set by the Ministry of Railways for the financial year 2026-27, ahead of schedule and with excellent quality.
