Centre agrees to NEET talks in Parliament, labels Rahul Gandhi’s move a breach of trust
New Delhi, July 21: After meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was protesting near the Prime Minister’s residence, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh alleged that the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) has gone back on his word. He had previously stated that he would end the protest if the demand for a discussion on NEET in Parliament was accepted, but despite this acceptance, he did not end the protest.
Singh stated that the government is ready to discuss all issues related to NEET and the related movement in Parliament. In contrast, the Congress party has not yet submitted any notice for a formal discussion on this serious issue as per the rules. Rahul Gandhi’s behavior does not align with the principles of democracy.
The Union Minister stated that the Congress leader suddenly sat on a dharna with his supporters near Akbar Road. The government had sent him and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to hold talks with senior leaders. Rahul Gandhi first demanded a discussion in Parliament on all issues related to NEET and the related protests and promised to end the sit-in immediately.
After his demands were met, he declared that he would not settle for just that and demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Singh said, “It is unbecoming of a senior leader like him to backtrack so quickly. He then said it was his choice. When the Home Secretary tried to explain that the venue was not conducive to a sit-in, his response was that it was his choice as to where he sat.”
