Counterfeit currency racket cracked—Two arrested in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow, August 08: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two smugglers smuggling fake Indian currency. 201 fake notes of ₹ 500 each were recovered from their possession, worth ₹ 100,500.
The ATS informed on Saturday that some people are bringing high quality Indian currency from Malda, West Bengal, India’s Bangladesh international border, and smuggling it into several districts of Uttar Pradesh. This is causing huge losses to the economy. The ATS, which is investigating the same case, arrested Kasganj residents Azim Khan and Raj alias Sameerul on Friday on the basis of a tip-off. 201 notes of ₹ 500 each were recovered from them.
Upon checking the recovered notes against Reserve Bank of India standards, a preliminary examination revealed that they appeared to be of high quality. The notes have been sent to a laboratory for testing. The accused have been arrested and are being investigated for other members of their gang.
