Delhi court sends Swatantra Bhardwaj to one-day police custody
New Delhi, September 5: Delhi’s Patiala House Court has sent Swatantra Bhardwaj, accused of assaulting and injuring the father of CJP protester during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar, to one-day police custody. Swatantra Bhardwaj was arrested a day earlier on September 4 from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, and was produced before the Patiala House Court today.
The Delhi police produced Swatantra Bhardwaj before the Patiala House Court and sought custody for interrogation. Swatantra Bhardwaj’s arrest came after he admitted in a podcast that he attacked the father of a protesting student on the head.
Following this podcast, workers from the Cockroach Janata Party and some other political parties protested at the Parliament Street police station. The protesters said that since Swatantra Bhardwaj himself admitted to the charges in the podcast, an FIR should be registered against him.
Following this protest, Swatantra Bhardwaj was arrested in Bulandshahr. An FIR has been registered against Swatantra Bhardwaj under sections of the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act.
A photo of Swatantra Bhardwaj during the protest at Jantar Mantar also went viral on social media.
