Eight labourers lose lives in MP accident; CM Yogi announces ex‑gratia

Lakhimpur Kheri, August 18: At least, eight labourers from Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh died and 22 labourers were injured in a horrific road accident that took place late Monday night in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the MP police, the accident took place near Chhimka village in Gohad area on National Highway-719. Expressing grief over the accident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an assistance amount of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased labourers from Uttar Pradesh.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of the pickup full of labourers turned the vehicle in an attempt to save the cows sitting on the highway. During this, the vehicle collided with an oncoming dumper.

Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police (SP) Khyati Garg, said that the laborers from the district, who had gone to Madhya Pradesh to plant paddy, were returning home in their vehicle after finishing their work. As their vehicle reached the highway near Chhimka village in Bhind district, it met with a road accident.

She said that according to the information received so far, the injured include Hansrai son of Ramkishan, Sompal son of Kanchan resident of village Bela Tursia, Akhilesh son of Gendalal resident of Pasgawan, Vikas son of Suresh resident of Pasgawan, Ranjeet son of Guddu resident of Kishanpur Ajit, police station Pasgawan, Akshay Kumar son of Mukesh, Karan Singh son of Ramsar resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, Pinku son of Sukhdev, Ramdas son of Badri resident of Pasgawan, Anoop son of Ramswaroop resident of Rampur Patihar, Devendra son of Sher Singh resident of Bela Tursia, Nandlal son of Chhal Bihari resident of Pasgawan, Akash son of Ramsagar resident of Bela Tursia, Pawan son of Dinesh Jatav, Ramakant son of Kanchan Lal resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, Anil son of Lekhram. Other injured are being identified.

The deceased have been identified as Updesh, son of Mohan, Amar Singh, son of Vanshidhar, Sukhdev, son of Kanchan, Rajneesh, son of Kanchanlal Pasi (all residents of Bela Parsia, Lakhimpur Kheri), Guddu, son of Prahlad Pasi, resident of Kishanpur Ajit, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Subhash, son of Kamlesh, resident of Mohammadi, Lakhimpur Kheri. The process of identifying the other two deceased is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the families of the workers from Lakhimpur Kheri who died in the accident.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on social media that the loss of life in the unfortunate accident in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely painful and heartbreaking. His condolences are with the bereaved families.

He stated that officials have been directed to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government to transport the bodies of the Uttar Pradesh citizens who lost their lives to their home districts and hand them over to their families, and to ensure proper treatment for the injured. Instructions have been given to provide financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to the families of each deceased from Uttar Pradesh in this accident.
