FIR lodged against Ajay Rai for using foul language against PM Modi

Varanasi, May 23: The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the Congress state president Ajay Rai in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly making indecent remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The filing of the case has sparked widespread outrage among Congress workers.

The Congress workers and leaders have openly come out in support of Ajay Rai on various social media platforms. Congress Varanasi Metropolitan President Raghavendra Choubey issued a statement on Saturday, saying that the FIR filed against Ajay Rai is a “direct attack on democracy and public voice.” He described the action as political vendetta and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is resorting to lawsuits and administrative pressure to suppress the voice of the opposition.

Raghavendra Choubey stated that after the alleged rape and brutality of a student in Mahoba, Ajay Rai personally visited the victim’s family to support their demand for justice. According to him, the administration attempted to stop him, but despite numerous obstacles, he met with the victim’s family, heard their side, and raised the demand for justice.

He stated that when the government and administration fail to fulfill their responsibilities, it is the responsibility of the opposition to become the voice of the victims. According to Choubey, Ajay Rai has consistently reached out to people in various parts of the state regarding cases of injustice, atrocities, and exploitation. The Congress leader also raised the issue of paper leaks and irregularities in various competitive examinations, including NEET.

He stated that these incidents have affected the future of millions of youth and left many students suffering from mental stress. Ajay Rai also reached out to such families and attempted to convey their problems to the government.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Ajay Rai’s statement, Choubey stated that he delivered his response in Mahoba in the Banarasi vernacular and the traditional colloquial style of Kashi. He claimed that those familiar with the language and folk culture of Kashi know that many words and phrases are part of normal social behavior. Accusing the BJP, he said that the party “distorted” the statement and presented it as an indecent comment at the national level.

Choubey said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the MP from Kashi and Ajay Rai is also a resident of Kashi. In such a situation, calling the local language and folk style indecent is an insult to the cultural tradition of Kashi. He also hit back at BJP leaders, saying that many of the party’s leaders have previously made personal comments against Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and other opposition leaders.

Citing statements by BJP leaders Nishikant Dubey, Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Giriraj Singh, and Anurag Thakur, Choubey said the BJP should review the conduct of its own leaders before blaming others.
