Five policemen, including SI, suspended in Jaunpur gold scam robbery case
Jaunpur, August 26: Serious questions have been raised over the functioning of Jalalpur police after a businessman was robbed of ₹3 lakh on the pretext of discounted gold, leading to the suspension of five policemen including the area sub‑inspector on Wednesday for failing to register the case promptly and act against the accused, with the DIG Varanasi Range ordering action following an inquiry that exposed police negligence.
According to the Social Media Cell, Varanasi Range, on August 25 at around 7:35 pm, Akash Seth, a resident of Shakarmandi, called the DIG, Varanasi Range’s CUG number and complained. He stated that an unknown number had lured him with the promise of gold at a discounted rate. He and his friend Saurabh Pratap reached Ijri village in Jalalpur with three lakh rupees. It is alleged that Ajay Singh, Shubham Singh, Indrajeet Saroj, and Vishal Singh assaulted him, robbed him of the three lakh rupees, and threatened to kill him.
On the instructions of the DIG, the Superintendent of Police investigated the matter. After the complaint was found to be true, a case, Crime No. 383/2026, was registered at the Jalalpur police station on August 26. Action was taken under relevant sections of the BNS. Police arrested Ajay Singh alias Pintu, Shubham Singh, and Indrajeet Saroj. The looted cash of three lakh rupees and the car, UP65CF1241, were recovered from their possession.
According to the police, the search for the fourth accused, Vishal Singh, is underway. SI Ram Bhuvan Yadav, recruit constable Raj Singh, recruit constable Shiva Singh, head clerk Santosh Mishra, and computer operator Mahendra have been suspended for negligence.
The DIG stated that negligence in action in criminal cases will not be tolerated at any level.
