IMD predicts extended wet spell across Northwestern states
New Delhi, July 26: Northwestern Indian states are expected to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the next five to six days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to experience humid weather for the next two days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain accompanied by strong winds is expected at isolated places in Delhi-NCR between morning and afternoon on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 34-36 degrees Celsius and 25-27 degrees Celsius, respectively. The situation will remain the same on July 28 and 29, but fluctuations in maximum temperatures are expected.
It is noteworthy that light rainfall was predicted in the capital today. However, the day was brighter than in previous days, making residents feel a bit less humid and hot.
According to the Meteorological Department, a depression is persisting over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts. It is expected to move northwestward, intensify into a deep depression over the next 24 hours, and cross the coasts of northern Odisha and West Bengal on Monday morning or afternoon. As a result, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Monday. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also possible in West Bengal and the Gangetic plains on July 27th. Widespread rainfall is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab in northwest India between July 28 and 31, in western Uttar Pradesh between July 28 and August 1, and in eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan.
Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on July 27th and August 1st. In Central India, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over western Madhya Pradesh on July 27-28 and August 1, and over eastern Madhya Pradesh during July 27-31, and over Chhattisgarh on July 27-28. In eastern India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, and Odisha are expected to experience heavy rainfall from July 27 to August 1.
Northeast India is also expected to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the next five to six days. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to experience isolated very heavy rainfall during July 29-30. In western India, Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next five to six days, with scattered rainfall expected over some areas.
In southern peninsular India, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe are expected to experience widespread rainfall between July 27 and August 1. Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam are expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next six days, with isolated strong winds expected in these areas.
Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on July 27-28.
During the past 24 hours, very heavy rainfall was recorded over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, central Maharashtra, Gujarat region and coastal Karnataka, while heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) was recorded over Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam.
