Kanpur civic body begins drive against illegal occupations, fines levied

Kanpur, July 27: A massive anti-encroachment drive was launched in Zone 4 of the Municipal Corporation on Monday. Under the leadership of Zonal Officer Rajesh Singh, the drive was carried out on the footpaths and pavement areas on both sides of the road from Vankhandeshwar Square to Vankhandeshwar Temple, Premnagar Square, and Mohammad Ali Park. The aim of the drive was to relieve the public from the inconvenience of commuting and to streamline traffic.

During the drive, approximately 80 tin sheds, 60 planks/tatters, eight large kiosks, 45 illegal permanent structures (walls and stairs), 80 cutouts/hoardings, 25 signboards, 28 benches, and a generator were removed from public roads and footpaths. A user fee of 25,000 rupees was also collected. The Municipal Corporation also warned the encroachers not to encroach again in the future.

Police from Sisamau, Bajaria, and Chamanganj police stations, revenue department officials, the Zone 4 team of the engineering department, and the municipal corporation’s enforcement team were present during the action.

Officials said the campaign to keep public roads and sidewalks encroachment-free will continue.
