Government doctor shoots self with licensed revolver in Kanpur

Kanpur, October 5: A government doctor in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur district, shot himself with his licensed revolver late Sunday night at Blossom Apartments, and though his family rushed him to a private hospital after his wife discovered him bleeding on the floor, he was declared dead, with police sending the body for post-mortem and launching an investigation into the incident, the police told.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Sandeep Singh (38), who was posted in the health department and currently works in Kanpur Dehat district.

Upon receiving information about the doctor’s suicide, police arrived at the scene. A forensic team conducted an investigation at the scene and seized the revolver. Further evidence related to the incident is being collected.

According to the police, the exact cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed. However, preliminary information suggests a family dispute. The Police have also received information about a dispute between the husband and wife late Sunday night. The matter is under investigation, and the reason for the suicide will only be clear after questioning.

Family members stated that Sandeep was originally from Pardevanpurwa, Chakeri Lal Bangla. His father, Raj Bahadur Singh, lives there with his wife and younger son, Vikram. Sandeep lived separately with his wife, Kanchan, and their six-month-old son in an apartment in Nirala Nagar. He had been divorced from his first marriage about four years ago. He has a five-year-old daughter from his first wife. He then married Kanchan, a resident of Kasganj, about three years ago. It was a love marriage. The couple had been arguing over trivial matters since shortly after their marriage.

Father Raj Bahadur said that he received a call from his daughter-in-law, Kanchan, late Sunday night. She informed him about the incident and asked him to take his son, Sandeep, to the hospital. Family members then rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared Sandeep dead.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said they received information that the doctor had committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further legal action is being taken.
