Magisterial probe ordered into Shikohabad encounter killing of two Etawah criminals
Firozabad, July 20: The District Magistrate on Monday ordered a magisterial inquiry to ensure a fair investigation into the death of two Etawah criminals in a police encounter within the Shikohabad police station area of Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh. He designated the sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Shikohabad, as the investigating officer.
On July 17, Etawah police surrounded wanted criminals at the railway station and nearby areas under the Shikohabad police station. During the encounter, two accused, Ankit, son of Kishan Chandra, and Sumit Yadav alias Sonu, son of Gulab Singh, were injured. Both were immediately sent to the district hospital for treatment, where doctors declared them dead. A case has been registered at the Shikohabad police station under relevant sections in connection with this incident.
District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma has ordered this magisterial inquiry to ensure strict compliance with the Supreme Court’s guidelines in the 2014 case of People’s Union for Civil Liberties vs. State of Maharashtra and the regulations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma has directed the designated investigating officer, Shikohabad SDM Rajesh Kumar Shukla, to thoroughly examine all technical, medical, and eyewitness evidence related to the incident. As per the regulations, the entire investigation process should be completed within two weeks (14 working days) and a detailed investigation report should be provided to his office. The administration is committed to maintaining complete transparency and fair proceedings throughout this process.
