Modi lands in Tashkent, warmly welcomed by Uzbek President
Tashkent, August 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Saturday, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended a warm welcome to him. Expressing gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for the welcome, the Prime Minister said that his fourth visit to Uzbekistan reflects the depth and ever-growing momentum of bilateral relations between the two countries.
After arriving in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi shared photos on Twitter, writing, “I arrived in Tashkent, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly welcomed me. I am grateful to him for this special gesture.” He also shared his message in Uzbek.
Prime Minister Modi then laid a wreath at the Independence Monument in Yangi Uzbekistan Park, with President Mirziyoyev also present. The Prime Minister paid his respects by standing momentarily before the memorial during a formal ceremony held with military honors. He later held talks with President Mirziyoyev and other officials.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Uzbekistan on August 29-30 is his fourth visit to the country. During the visit, discussions will focus on further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various areas of trade, defense, energy, digital connectivity, and development. Both sides will also consider ways to advance the shared development goals of India’s “Developed India” and Uzbekistan’s “Young Uzbekistan.”
The Prime Minister’s visit comes at a time when India-Uzbekistan relations are expanding into new areas of cooperation. Both countries are emphasizing further momentum in the political, economic, security, energy, digital, and cultural spheres.
