Muzaffarpur police faces fierce gunfire as notorious criminal Uttam Rai manages to flee
Muzaffarpur, August 13: A fierce encounter erupted in the Jajuan police station area when wanted criminal Uttam Rai and his associates opened fire on a police team conducting a raid, firing two rounds before managing to escape, leaving the district shaken and the police department on high alert.
Giving details of the incident, City Superintendent of Police Mohibullah Ansari stated that police had received accurate information that notorious criminal Uttam Rai was hiding in the Jajuan police station area. Based on this information, a special police team raided the identified hideout. Upon seeing the police force, criminal Uttam Rai and his accomplice began firing in panic.
Seeing themselves surrounded, the criminals fired two shots at the police team. In self-defense and to apprehend the criminals, the police team returned fire. However, amid the exchange of fire, the criminals managed to escape with their accomplice on a motorcycle, abandoning all their belongings.
Upon receiving information about the encounter, senior police officers immediately arrived at the scene with a heavy police force. During the investigation, police recovered five live cartridges, two mobile phones, and a Wi-Fi router left behind by the criminals. These items have been seized and a technical investigation has been initiated.
According to the police, the absconding Uttam Rai is a notorious and wanted criminal. He has nearly a dozen serious cases against him, including murder, robbery, and extortion, registered against him in several surrounding districts, including Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, and Darbhanga. The police had been searching for him for a long time.
Following the incident, all areas around Jajuar have been sealed. Police are conducting intensive checking operations by setting up blockades at various locations. The City Superintendent of Police (SP) claimed that raids are ongoing at possible hideouts of the criminals and that the absconding Uttam Rai and his associates will soon be arrested.
