Political jolt in Trinamool—Koel Mallick resigns from Upper House
New Delhi, July 16: The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Rukmini Koel Mallick has resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
According to sources, Mallick submitted her resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan.
Mallick was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the TMC in April. Her resignation comes a day after Trinamool Congress MLA and close aide of Mamata Banerjee, Madan Mitra, joined the rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress led by Ritabrata Banerjee.
Koyal Mallick’s resignation reduces the number of Trinamool Congress members in the Rajya Sabha to nine.
It is noteworthy that Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik had previously resigned from the Rajya Sabha and Trinamool Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following this, all three have also filed nominations for the Rajya Sabha by-elections.
