Sai Bhagirath, accused in sexual assault case, surrenders to police

Hyderabad, May 16: Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, surrendered to Cyberabad police on Saturday in a POCSO case. His surrender came after police issued a lookout circular against him and the Telangana High Court refused to grant him interim protection from arrest.

Bhagirath faces serious charges of sexually assaulting a minor. After a case was registered at the Petbasheerbagh police station, authorities deployed five special teams and launched a massive manhunt to locate Bhagirath. After the High Court rejected his interim bail plea and limited legal options, Bhagirath appeared before the police with a legal team (lawyers) and joined the investigation. He is expected to be produced in a local court and later remanded to judicial custody.

‘Everyone is equal before the law’: Bandi Sanjay

In this regard, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar issued an official statement confirming that he had surrendered his son to the police through a lawyer. In a post on the social media platform X, he said, “Be it my child or any ordinary citizen, everyone is equal before the law. We are all bound by the law.”

He further stated that he had decided to hand his son over to the authorities when a complaint was filed against him. He also noted that Bhagirath has consistently maintained his innocence and denied the allegations, and that the surrender was done for the purpose of a proper and legal investigation of the case.
