SEC releases final voter list for UP Panchayat polls; 40.19 lakh voters added

Lucknow, June 10: The State Election Commission (SEC) released the final voter list for the three-tier Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections on Wednesday. This voter list was released by the District Magistrate in all districts of the state and each Panchayat voter was also given a 9-digit identification number.

The Commission released this final voter list after resolving and verifying claims and objections. After the final voter list was released, some difficulties are being faced in downloading it due to technical reasons. However, the concerned department is making efforts to resolve the problem.

Approximately 18.1 million new voters have been added to the final voter list, while approximately 14.1 million voters have been removed from the list after the revision. This has increased the voter list by approximately 40.19 lakh voters.

It is believed that Panchayat election activities will accelerate in the state after the release of the final voter list. The current term of Gram Panchayats ended on May 26. Following the expiry of their term, the government appointed the village heads as administrators for the next six months.

The government has constituted a Backward Classes Commission to review the economic and social status of the backward classes and submit its report on reservation within six months. The matter regarding the Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh is pending in the Allahabad High Court.

During the hearing, the OBC Commission has been asked to submit its report in July. It is believed that if the reservation process is not completed on time, it will be difficult to conduct elections before the Assembly elections. Assembly elections are scheduled for February-March 2027.
