
Suvendu Adhikari becomes 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal, oath administered by Governor R.N. Ravi
Kolkata, May 09: The Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee in the West Bengal Assembly elections, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Suvendu Adhikari at a swearing-in ceremony held at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, and many dignitaries were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Apart from Suvendu, senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Pal, and Ashok Kirtania also took the oath of office and secrecy. The swearing-in ceremony was still underway at the time of writing this news.
New BJP government to be sworn in today at Brigade Ground, prominent leaders from across the country to attend
Following the landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government will be held on Saturday. This grand ceremony will begin at 10 am on Saturday at Kolkata’s historic Brigade Ground. The Chief Minister of West Bengal’s first BJP government will be sworn in at this ceremony. Two Deputy Chief Ministers and Cabinet Ministers will also be sworn in.
Significantly, this swearing-in ceremony is being held on the 25th day of the month of Baishakh according to the Bengali calendar. This day also marks the birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with several senior Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will be present at the ceremony. BJP President Nitin Naveen and several national party leaders will also attend.
According to reports, as per protocol, invitations have been sent to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, and several senior leaders and leaders of various political parties.
Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, a series of meetings regarding the state cabinet have been held, and portfolio allocations to ministers have been discussed. However, the names of the cabinet have not yet been officially announced. Sources indicate that Swapan Dasgupta, Ajit Kumar Jana, Shankar Ghosh, Sharda Mukhopadhyay, Indranil Khan, Agnimitra Pal, Dilip Ghosh, Dipanjan Chakraborty, Deepak Burman, Bankim Ghosh, Sajal Ghosh, Rudranil Ghosh, Subrata Thakur, Rabindranath Basu, Jagannath Chattopadhyay, Jual Murmu, Naman Rai, Arjun Singh, Debashish Dhar, and Rajesh Kumar may be included in the cabinet. Tapas Roy is expected to be appointed Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
The ceremony will also be attended by numerous industrialists, ambassadors and consuls general from various countries, prominent figures from the society, and prominent cultural figures. Special invitations have also been sent to directors, producers, actors, actresses, litterateurs, writers, and artists from the Bengali film industry.
It has been reported that families of BJP members who lost their loved ones in political violence have also been specially invited. According to reports, over 200 such families have been invited to the ceremony, and special arrangements have been made for their seating.
Additionally, lakhs of BJP supporters and members of the public are expected to attend. In view of this, over 100 large LED screens are being installed at Brigade Ground so that even those sitting far away can view the entire program.
