Strengthening women’s self-belief, Modi praises Annapurna Yojana in Bengal
New Delhi, September 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Annapurna Yojana is an important effort to strengthen the self-confidence of women in Bengal. Under the scheme, the fourth installment is being transferred to the bank accounts of approximately 1.5 crore women on Thursday. Each beneficiary woman will receive ₹3,000 per month, freeing them from dependence on others for essential family expenses.
Addressing an event organized on Annapurna Day in West Bengal via video message, the Prime Minister said that mothers and sisters shoulder numerous responsibilities at home. When the worry of essential expenses is reduced, their self-confidence also increases. With this vision, the Annapurna Yojana is an important step towards economically empowering women in Bengal.
He said that the scheme funds are directly transferred to women’s bank accounts, so they will not need to ask anyone for assistance. He stressed that there is no “cut money” or middlemen in the scheme.
Modi said that the government’s goal is to ensure that not a single eligible woman is deprived of the benefits of the Annapurna Yojana. He said that the women of Bengal should have the power to make their own decisions and the courage to move forward, and the Annapurna Yojana plays a major role in this.
The Prime Minister said that the central government has launched several schemes to address the various needs of mothers, sisters, and daughters. These include the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana for nutrition during pregnancy, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme for the safety and education of daughters, the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, the Mudra Yojana for self-employment, the Ujjwala Yojana, Har Ghar Jal, Saubhagya, Ayushman Bharat, and the Jan Dhan Yojana.
He said that in recent years, the benefits of many central schemes in Bengal have not reached them on time, causing harm to poor families. Now, stalled schemes and pending projects are being accelerated.
Prime Minister stated that over 5 million new poor families have been identified in Bengal, who will be provided with permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He also mentioned the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana in the state.
Modi stated that with the blessings of the mothers, sisters, and people of Bengal, a new Bengal will be built. He said that the strength of a developed Bengal will strengthen the resolve for a developed India. The Prime Minister extended greetings for Vishwakarma Puja along with Annapurna Day.
