Trinamool Congress seeks urgent meeting with President, Governor
Kolkata, September 3: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has sought an urgent meeting with President Droupadi Murmu and Governor RN Ravi regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal and the alleged “systematic misuse” of the police. Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien stated that separate letters were sent to the President in Delhi and the Governor in Kolkata on Thursday morning, requesting a meeting with a party delegation.
Derek O’Brien told reporters that Trinamool Congress has sought an urgent meeting with the President and Governor regarding the current situation in Bengal. The party delegation will discuss the situation in the state and law and order issues during the meeting.
This move comes after Trinamool National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged that armed BJP workers entered the Trinamool office on Camac Street in Kolkata early Thursday morning. According to him, the office was vandalized, employees were assaulted, and electronic equipment was damaged.
Lok Sabha MP Abhishek also alleged that despite repeated calls and emails from party workers and lawyers, the Kolkata Police took no action for nearly two hours. He described the incident as a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
Derek O’Brien alleged that the situation has been steadily deteriorating over the past several months. He said that Trinamool workers are being targeted across the state and party offices are being vandalized. He claimed that the incident that occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday was part of this trend.
He accused the police of not following established rules and procedures and acting with political bias. Brian said that law and order in the state has completely deteriorated and the police are acting like BJP workers.
Upasana Chowdhury, in-charge of the Trinamool Congress IT cell, also alleged that around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, BJP workers attacked security guards at the party office on Camac Street and vandalized the office. He said that the party has CCTV footage of the incident and an FIR will be lodged in this matter.
