Two‑day JPC session in UP to examine feasibility of simultaneous polls
Lucknow, July 13: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has arrived in Lucknow for a two-day visit. The JPC will deliberate on the issue with leaders and experts from various fields on Monday and Tuesday.
Former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur told the media here on Monday that the Joint Parliamentary Committee is on a tour of Uttar Pradesh on the issue of “One Nation, One Election”. Today, meetings will be held with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, and all other senior officials. In addition, meetings will be held with bank officials, other officials, various organizations, Bar Council officials, and senior lawyers. All meetings will be held until 7 pm.
Anurag Thakur added that the Parliamentary Committee will then meet with political figures on Tuesday morning, including elected representatives and representatives of political parties. An effort will be made to gather their views on the One Nation, One Election.
He said that holding both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections at the same time would impact many things. The election code of conduct is in place throughout the year. Sometimes Assembly elections, sometimes Lok Sabha elections, sometimes elections in one state, sometimes in another. Freedom from all this is possible. The question is what the different parties think.
