UP leads country in electricity demand for majority of days since May 1
Lucknow, September 13: Uttar Pradesh’s strengthened power supply system under the Yogi government has delivered record results, with the state meeting the highest electricity demand in the country on 74 of the 135 days since May 1 and ranking second on 37 days, meaning that for 111 days it consistently stood among the top two power‑consuming states nationwide.
In the state, uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers was ensured for 22 days since May 24th. However, due to heavy rains and waterlogging in many parts of the country, production and supply in coal mines have been affected. Due to this, production has been affected at thermal power plants in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.
According to UPPCL, thermal production capacity has also been affected in Uttar Pradesh due to coal shortages and wet coal. Availability has decreased due to tripping at various power units due to technical and other reasons. Despite this, the Yogi government has continued to make every effort to maintain the efficiency of the power supply system.
Normal daytime power supply remains normal throughout the state. However, due to low peak power availability and limited clearances of only 2-3 percent at the power exchange, limited nighttime rostering is being implemented in rural areas, Bundelkhand, tehsil and municipal council areas.
Meanwhile, 24-hour power supply is being ensured in district headquarters. The state government is continuously coordinating with relevant agencies, including Coal India Limited, to maintain uninterrupted power supply. Effective steps are being taken to increase the availability of coal and energy.
The Yogi government’s focus is on providing maximum relief to consumers and maintaining a stable supply system by effectively utilizing available resources.
