World-class sports complex to be built in Gorakhpur: Yogi Adityanath

Gorakhpur, May 16: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with performing the groundbreaking ceremony and laying the foundation stone for the International Cricket Stadium in Gorakhpur on Saturday, also made a major announcement in the interest of sports and athletes.

He announced that a world-class sports complex will be built on 60 acres of land reserved adjacent to the International Cricket Stadium.

Addressing the gathering after performing the groundbreaking ceremony and laying the foundation stone for the International Cricket Stadium to be built at a cost of approximately ₹393 crore in Tal Nador, Gorakhpur, in the presence of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that not only will an international cricket stadium with a capacity of 30,000 spectators be built on 46 acres of land, but a sports complex will also be constructed on the adjacent 60 acres of land. Facilities for all types of indoor games will be provided, including hockey and other outdoor games.

Yogi said that the construction of the international cricket stadium and sports complex will also create a new chain of hotels, restaurants, and markets in the area, and will also create a large number of new jobs.

Discussing the developmental changes taking place in the Tal Nador area, the Chief Minister said that five years ago, this area was barren and neglected, with anyone who desired to encroach upon the land. Now, the land is free of encroachment. Furthermore, the double-engine government is providing an excellent platform for shaping the future of the youth on this land. He described the international cricket stadium as an excellent gift for the realization of the dreams of the youth and future generations.

Chief Minister Yogi said that his government has made the state mafia-free, gangster-free, riot-free, and curfew-free. This is moving the state forward on the path of development. He said that when development occurs, employment is created spontaneously.

Chief Minister warned the people that those who divide people on the basis of caste, language, and region cannot be their well-wishers. Whenever they came to power, they resorted to hooliganism, anarchy, and chaos. They misused power for their own families, never for the public good. However, today’s double-engine government is working for the welfare of the common people and creating employment.

Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khelo India, the Fit India Movement, and the Members of Parliament’s Sports Competition have fostered a new sports culture. As a result, India’s participation and medal tally have increased in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and world-class competitions. He stated that providing infrastructure to athletes is the government’s responsibility, and the government is fulfilling this responsibility effectively. With these facilities, today’s athletes are fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision.

Chief Minister stated that the government is developing sports grounds in every village, mini-stadiums at the block level, stadiums at the district level, and sports colleges at the divisional level. A sports university has been established in Meerut, and its grand inauguration ceremony is scheduled for this session.

He added that the international cricket stadium is being built on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi route, where it used to take four to five hours to reach Varanasi, but now it takes only two and a half hours. Similarly, the travel time from Gorakhpur to Lucknow has been reduced from eight hours to three and a half hours. Welcoming Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to the event, Yogi Adityanath said that the country and the world are grappling with the crisis in West Asia. Many countries are in turmoil. Petroleum prices are skyrocketing. Many countries around the world are experiencing chaos and instability.

He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has demonstrated excellent management in India. Although oil companies have been burdened, he has consistently provided relief to the general public amid the crisis. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the Petroleum Minister, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum for contributing ₹100 crore from the CSR fund for the construction of the International Cricket Stadium in Gorakhpur.

At the foundation stone laying ceremony of the International Cricket Stadium, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, performed the Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) amid Vedic chanting. After completing the Bhoomi Pujan ritual, he also planted a sapling and promoted environmental protection. At the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Chief Minister inspected the drawing map and model of the stadium and received detailed information about the construction work.
