Yogi govt intensifies monitoring to restore rain‑hit power supply
Lucknow, September 27: The Yogi government has intensified monitoring and relief operations to quickly restore power supply affected by incessant rain in Uttar Pradesh. Principal Secretary Energy and Chairman of the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Ranvir Prasad, has instructed officials to work on a war footing to restore power supply as soon as possible.
He said that consumer complaints should be resolved feeder-wise and every information received on 1912 should be taken seriously.
The Principal Secretary directed that consumers should also be informed about the expected time for restoration of their power supply. He said that power supply to essential services, including hospitals and drinking water, should be restored on a priority basis. Rain and falling trees have caused widespread breakdowns in 33 and 11 kV feeders. Power poles have also been broken at many locations. Work is underway to replace these and repair damaged lines, as well as to repair them. Teams are also working continuously in remote rural areas.
Discom officials reported that power supply has been restored to most urban areas, including Lucknow. In Madhyanchal, power supply is normal in urban areas except for the Bareilly division. Six 33 kV substations are down, and the target is to restore them by evening. In Purvanchal, power supply is normal in most urban areas except Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar.
In Paschimchal, supply is normal except for the rural areas of Amroha, Bijnor, Sambhal, and Moradabad. In Dakshinanchal, power supply has been restored to all cities except Etawah, Kannauj, Auraiya, and Farrukhabad. There is no 33 KV breakdown in the Kesco area. Supply has been normalized everywhere.
The most affected districts include Ambedkar Nagar, Bhadohi, Azamgarh, Ballia, Bahraich, Basti, Bareilly, Gonda, Deoria, Lakhimpur, Mau, Siddharth Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Shahjahanpur, Agra, Firozabad, Kanpur Nagar, Bulandshahr, Gorakhpur and Varanasi Rural. Continuous monitoring is being done. Officers from the headquarters have been sent to the districts. The implementing agencies engaged in RDSS and business plan work have also been deployed in maintenance work.

The UPPCL Chairman stated that there should be no shortage of manpower in the restoration of power supply. Work should be carried out with constant district- and feeder-wise monitoring, ensuring that no feeder is left unattended. Power supply to hospitals, drinking water, and other essential services should be restored on a priority basis. He stated that there is adequate availability of materials. Shakti Bhawan and the control rooms of all discoms are operational 24 hours a day. Discom managing directors provided detailed information about problems and ongoing maintenance work in their respective areas via video conferencing. UPPCL Managing Director Nitesh Kumar also provided necessary guidance to officials.
