By‑Elections tomorrow: Voting on six assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat

New Delhi, October 05: Voting for by-elections will be held on Tuesday, October 6, on five assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in three states and one union territory of the country. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in Nandigram and Rejinagar of West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram of Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavady assembly seat of Puducherry and Nagaon Lok Sabha seat of Assam. Counting of votes will be done on October 9.

Candidates from various parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly (TVK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Left parties, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), All India NR Congress (AINRC), are contesting these six seats. Most of the seats fell vacant due to elected representatives from two constituencies either resigning or contesting one seat in the 2026 Assembly elections.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam has 1,901,899 voters and 2,307 polling stations. The Nandigram Assembly seat in West Bengal has 2,66,415 voters and 282 polling stations, according to the 2026 voter list. Rejinagar has 2,39,295 voters and 315 polling stations. The Madurantakam constituency in Tamil Nadu has 213,788 voters and 285 polling stations, while Dharapuram has 223,247 voters and 320 polling stations. The Thattanchavady constituency in Puducherry has 26,921 voters. According to available data, a total of 26,71,565 voters will exercise their franchise in these six seats, including the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

This by-election for six seats is crucial for the local political dynamics of different states as well as for the major parties. Voting will take place on October 6th and counting will take place on October 9th. The voters’ decision on these six seats will determine the fate of the new public representatives.
