Karuppu’s strong run overshadows rivals Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanjay Dutt
The moviegoers witnessed a fierce competition between three big films. Suriya’s action-drama ‘Karuppu’, Ayushmann Khurrana’s romantic-comedy ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh 2’, and Sanjay Dutt’s ‘Aakhri Sawal’ simultaneously in the cinemas across the country. The opening day box office figures clearly showed that Suriya’s film received the most response from audiences.
According to preliminary figures from Sacnilk, ‘Karuppu’ earned an impressive ₹14.40 crore (US$1.4 billion) across the country on its first day of release. Despite challenges like financial difficulties and cancellation of initial shows, the film has had a strong start. Directed by RJ Balaji, Suriya plays a lawyer and warrior who demonstrates his strength in both court and battle. The film also stars Trisha Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Swasika, and Indrans in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, “Pati Patni Aur Woh 2” failed to attract audiences to theaters. The film grossed only ₹3.85 crore on its first day, significantly lower than the opening of its prequel, “Pati Patni Aur Woh.” “Aakhri Sawaal,” on the other hand, performed poorly. This politically charged film earned only ₹40 lakh on its first day of release. Amit Sadh and Namashi Chakraborty also star in pivotal roles, but the lukewarm audience response clearly impacted its earnings.
