Search for POCSO case accused Bhagirath-son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay- intensifies, Telangana police raids multiple locations
Hyderabad, May 16: The troubles of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s son, Bandi Bhagirath, are mounting in a sensitive case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A day after the Telangana High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, Cyberabad police have intensified their action.
On Saturday, several police teams raided various locations linked to the accused in Hyderabad and Karimnagar. Furthermore, fearing the accused may flee the country, Cyberabad police have issued a lookout circular.
The police conducted searches at several locations in Karimnagar, including the Banjara Hills residence of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay. Confirming the raid, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Kukatpally Zone, Rithiraj, stated that five special teams have been formed to arrest the accused. These teams are conducting searches at suspected locations, including Maitri Residency in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, and the ancestral residence of the detainee, Sanjay Kumar, in Karimnagar.
According to the police, the accused’s close associates are also being questioned at his possible hideouts. Various police units are working at all levels to track down the absconding accused. Digital footprints and technical surveillance are also being utilized.
Surveillance and technical teams are examining the accused’s last mobile phone location and call data records (CDRs) of possible associates. Furthermore, social media activities, digital transactions, and other electronic data are being thoroughly analyzed to determine his current whereabouts.
A case was registered against detainee Bhagirath under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for the harassment of a minor. To avoid arrest, the accused filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Telangana High Court. However, the court dismissed the petition on Friday, citing the gravity of the case and the preliminary evidence presented by the police. Since then, the accused is reported to be absconding.
A senior official in the office of the Director General of Police stated that all airports and seaports have been put on alert to prevent the accused, who is under a lookout notice, from leaving the country. Police claim that the accused will soon be brought to justice, arrested, and presented in court.
This case has also heated up Telangana politics. Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress have targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party and staged protests at several locations demanding the arrest of the accused.
