Mayawati praises BRICS Declaration, urges Yogi govt to address panchayat assistants’ issues

Lucknow, September 13: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati has described the “New Delhi Declaration” issued during the 18th BRICS summit held in New Delhi as an important diplomatic achievement.

She said that amid the economic crisis caused by US policies on Ukraine and Iran, increasing global tensions, conflicts, and trade tariffs, the unanimous issuance of the 140-paragraph declaration by the BRICS countries is a sign of mutual understanding and diplomatic acumen.

In a press conference held in Lucknow on Sunday, Mayawati said that the desire to further strengthen mutual relations among the BRICS countries is encouraging. She added that moving forward towards the development of a BRICS currency could also prove to be an important step.

Referring to the Palestine issue, the BSP chief said that a commitment to combat terrorism at all levels, along with support for a two-state solution and an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, is crucial. Referring to Pahalgam, she said that India’s stance has received significant support from its commitment against terrorism, which is commendable.

Regarding relations with China, Mayawati said that both countries should avoid turning their differences into disputes and should move forward as partners in development. She said that the results of this approach will be visible in the future.

She also said that a quick resolution to the border dispute between the two countries would be appropriate. Mayawati appealed to the Uttar Pradesh government to sympathetically consider the demands of the approximately 58,000 Panchayat Sahayaks in the state.

She said that the Panchayat Sahayaks have been protesting near the Green Eco Garden in Lucknow for the past few days, demanding various demands, including a respectable increase in honorarium and permanent employment instead of contractual employment.

The BSP chief said that the government should sympathetically consider the demands of the Panchayat Sahayaks. She said that it would be better if their problems are resolved properly.

Mayawati abolished the post of Chief Sector Incharge and also gave information about the decisions taken in the meeting held on September 3 at the party’s state office in Lucknow.

She said that to speed up the party’s work on a war footing, the BSP organisation has been divided into three sectors. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been kept in Sector Number One and she herself will monitor it. Other states of the country, where the party’s organisation is active, have been divided into two equal sectors. Central Sector Incharges have been appointed for these.

Mayawati stated that she would continue to contact them from time to time. She explained that the post of Chief Sector Incharge has been abolished. Now, the Sector Incharge will submit his report to the party’s National Vice President, Anand Kumar, and Anand will report on their work to her.

‘Akash Anand is working at the behest of his father-in-law.’

Mayawati accused her nephew, Akash Anand, of acting under the influence of his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth. She dismissed the reports about her health as baseless, stating that she is completely healthy. However, Akash Anand is spreading rumors about her illness. She claimed that proof of this is a phone call Akash Anand made to party in-charge Alok Kumar. She stated that Akash asked Alok Kumar about his health and wanted to know whether ‘Behanji’ was ill.

According to Mayawati, Alok Kumar replied that she was perfectly fine. Akash Anand then also told her not to tell Mayawati that he had called.

The BSP chief stated that Akash Anand’s mentality behind this phone call could be both good and bad. She alleged that Akash is not working on his own discretion but is working under the influence of Ashok Siddharth.
