Gurugram police tightens grip as viral clip turns case into ‘attempted murder’, driver held
Gurugram, September 15: The accused driver Kalyan Bainsla, who allegedly rammed motovlogger Sia’s bike in a viral road rage incident, has been arrested from Rajasthan, with Gurugram police slapping an attempt‑to‑murder charge after the video sparked nationwide outrage.
The Gurugram police has taken a tough stand in the road rage case in which a woman biker was hit by a car on Golf Course Road on September 13. The police have now added the attempt to murder charge to the case registered suo motu based on a viral video.
According to the police, Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been added to the charge sheet filed at Sector 56 police station after a thorough analysis of CCTV footage. This section carries a provision for up to 10 years’ imprisonment. On September 14, a video went viral on social media showing a car driver intentionally hitting a woman biker on Golf Course Road. The video clearly showed that the car driver did not act negligently but intentionally hit the woman.
After the video surfaced, Gurugram police took suo motu cognizance without waiting for any complaint and registered a case under relevant sections at Sector 56 police station. After initial investigations, when police examined CCTV footage from the scene, the case turned out to be not a simple accident but an attempted murder. The footage clearly showed the car driver’s actions were intended to cause serious harm to the woman. Based on this, the police have also added Section 109 of the BNS to the case.
The Gurugram police has clarified that such street hooliganism and violation of the law will not be tolerated at any cost. They have warned that anyone engaging in such dangerous acts on the road will face the strictest possible action.
