Second worker dies in 24 hours at Adani power plant in Mirzapur

Mirzapur, May 20: The second death within 24 hours at the under-construction Adani Power Plant in Dadri village, located in the Madihan police station area, has spread panic among workers. On Wednesday, a worker died after being crushed under a heavy sheet while unloading iron plates from a truck. A day earlier, the body of an employee was found hanging from a noose in the plant premises.

According to information, driver Mohammad Apsar, a resident of Nawada district in Bihar, had arrived at the plant from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, carrying a truck loaded with heavy iron plates. Chhotu Shah, 27, son of Mohammad Anwar Shah, was opening the truck’s rear hatch.

According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the hatch opened, the heavy iron plates slipped rapidly and fell on him. Following the accident, chaos reigned at the scene.

Fellow workers removed the plate with a crane and rushed the injured Chhotu to the Community Health Center in Madihan, but he had died before reaching the hospital.

Hospital Superintendent Dr RS Verma declared him dead. Police have sent the body for a post-mortem and informed the family.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, the body of 35-year-old Kamal, son of Kanchan, a resident of West Bengal, who worked at the plant, was found hanging from a noose. He was living in Mirzapur, away from his family.

It was reported that he was working normally until the evening, but the discovery of his body late at night sparked panic among the workers. An atmosphere of fear and mourning prevails in the plant premises following the two consecutive deaths.

The station house officer Bal Mukund Mishra stated that the police are investigating both cases. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further action will be taken after the report is received.
