Varanasi, 14 Sept: A famous jeweller from the Nagra market in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh has fled after police filed a FIR against him for threatening officials, among other allegations.
The FIR was filed after Amarendra Babu, alias Bablu, assaulted an engineer from the electricity department and terrorised his team members with a rifle when they went to disconnect his house’s power supply owing to non-payment of dues. This incident’s footage also went viral on social media.
“On Tuesday, a FIR was lodged against Amarendra with Nagra police station under sections 186 (voluntarily obstructing any public servant in the discharge of his public functions), 332, 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 353 (Assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC,” Ballia superintendent of police Rajkaran Nayyar said on Wednesday.
Police confiscated Amarendra’s gun and reported it to district magistrate Saumya Agrawal for suspension of its licence, Nayyar said, adding that Amarendra escaped before police arrived. He stated that teams had been formed to apprehend him as soon as possible.
When the electrical department’s junior engineer Tarkeshwar Yadav and a team of linemen arrived at Amarendra’s shop – Prakash Aabhushan Bhandar on Monday evening, they set off a high-voltage drama in Nagra market. Yadav was busy comparing the load of a connection to metre readings in order to estimate dues when Amarendra emerged from his store and assaulted Yadav and lineman on his team. The lineman were enraged and attempted to respond when Amarendra pulled out his weapon and attempted to target them. When Yadav tried to stop Amarendra from firing, the latter pummelling him once again. When the electricity personnel saw it, they departed from the area.
Later, Yadav went to Nagra police station to file a complaint, in which he stated that after finding dues of ?20,208, he suggested Amarendra to deposit some money to avoid electricity disconnection. In response, Amarendra requested that Yadav and his team members unplug his power connection. However, as they began the process of disconnecting, Amarendra pulled out his weapon and began beating them, threatening them with severe repercussions, according to Yadav.
