Kolkata, May 27: A joint team of the West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force (STF) and Diamond Harbour police has arrested Dilip Mandal, Trinamool MLA from Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas, from a hotel in Puri, Odisha. He will be brought to Kolkata after completing legal procedures. A video of Mandal recently went viral, allegedly threatening opposition workers and supporters. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently confirmed.
A police complaint was filed against him in connection with this matter. Following this, police launched an investigation and raided his home in Pailan on May 14. He was not found at home. It is reported that two days ago, the STF received information that Dilip Mandal was staying at the Blue Lily Hotel in Puri. Based on this information, the STF and Diamond Harbour Police raided the hotel. After checking the register, the police entered his room and arrested him.
The police have already arrested the MLA’s son, Arghya Mandal, in this case. He is accused of inciting unrest in the area. It was claimed that firearms were recovered from him during the arrest. Four other people have also been arrested in this case. Following the complaint, Dilip Mandal approached the Calcutta High Court, seeking protection from arrest and the quashing of several FIRs filed against him. This petition is pending in court.
