Allahabad HC summons Hamirpur SP over minor’s illegal detention since May 26
Prayagraj, June 24: The Allahabad High Court, taking serious cognizance of the illegal detention of a minor girl, has directed the Hamirpur Superintendent of Police to appear virtually on June 25.
Suman Rajak, the 16-year-old minor daughter of Chandrashekhar Rajak, a resident of Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh), has been missing since May 26, 2026. On May 27, 2026, the father lodged an FIR under Section 137(2) of the IPC at Orchha Road Police Station, Chhatarpur district.
Subsequently, the father learned from reliable sources that the accused was illegally detaining his daughter in Gulabnagar, Rath, Kotwali Rath police station, Hamirpur district. On May 28, 2026, the father submitted an application to the SHO, Kotwali Rath, requesting his daughter’s release, but no action was taken. On June 9, 2026, another application was sent by registered mail, but no concrete action was taken.
Justice Tej Pratap Tiwari described the situation as “extremely sad,” stating that a 16-year-old girl has been in illegal custody since May 26, and despite her father’s numerous written requests, the police have not taken any effective action to date. This is a matter of deep regret.
The High Court ordered the Hamirpur Superintendent of Police (SP) to appear with the records. The Registrar (Compliance) has also been directed to immediately transmit this order to the District and Sessions Judge, Hamirpur, and the Hamirpur Superintendent of Police (SP). The next hearing will be held on June 25.
