PAC Jawan’s weapon ‘accidentally’ fires at Kashi Vishwanath temple, probe underway

Varanasi, July 4: Panic gripped the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple premises on Saturday when a provincial armed constabulary (PAC) jawan’s loaded carbine slipped from his hand at Gate No. 4 and accidentally fired upon hitting the ground, briefly alarming devotees and security personnel before the situation was brought under control.

According to eyewitnesses, the bullet hit the ground and the impact of the bullet sent pebbles from the road flying and falling on nearby shopkeepers, injuring Nikki Gupta, Rambabu, and Vikas Yadav, who were selling flowers and garlands. The injured sustained minor injuries.

Senior police officers arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident. All three were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, where their condition was reported normal after first aid.

Following the incident, there was chaos at Gate No. 4 of the temple for some time. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
