NSA order sparks misinterpretation, Delhi police deny connection to CJP demonstration
New Delhi, July 23: Amidst the ongoing social media campaign Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the Delhi Police has issued a clarification on media reports regarding the National Security Act (NSA).
The police clarified on Thursday that the Delhi Police Commissioner has not been given preventive action powers under the NSA to stop or deal with the CJP protest. This order is purely part of the regular administrative process, which is renewed every three months.
According to the police, some media organizations had published news that the Police Commissioner has been given arrest and detention powers under the NSA to control the CJP protest. They termed these reports as misleading and said that the current order has no connection with the protest.
The police stated that the order renewing the powers under the NSA was issued on July 7, 2026. This order will be effective from July 19, 2026, to October 18, 2026. This means that the order was issued before the CJP protests began and was implemented as per the prescribed administrative process.
They clarified that no special proposal or separate request was made in light of the current situation. Some media reports linked the regular renewal, which occurs every three months, to the CJP protests, sending a false message.
The police have appealed to the public not to trust such misleading news and to verify any information only from official sources. They emphasize that unverified information circulating on social media and other platforms can create confusion in law and order matters, so only factual information should be trusted.
