Disproportionate assets case filed against PCS officer in Agra
Agra, September 07: A case has been registered in the Agra Vigilance Department against PCS officer Vivek Rajput, sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of Unchahar tehsil, after he failed to justify income exceeding ₹70 lakh uncovered in an ongoing disproportionate assets investigation.
According to information received in this regard, Vivek Rajput was suspended by the Yogi government on July 10, 2024, following allegations of corruption in land matters while posted in Firozabad district of Agra division. However, later on November 20, 2025, the Appointments Department reinstated him and appointed him as the new SDM of Rae Bareli. Vivek Rajput is a PCS of the 2020 batch. He has served as the SDM of Etah and Firozabad.
Inspector Ravi Shankar Pandey, posted in the Vigilance Department’s Agra Sector, stated that after an investigation into the discrepancy of more than 70 lakhs between the income earned from legitimate sources and the actual income, a case was registered against the SDM.
According to information received in this regard, his legitimate income was ₹38.87 lakhs, while ₹1.09 crores was spent on property and maintenance. A discrepancy of approximately ₹70.92 lakhs was found, for which SDM Vivek Rajput could not provide a satisfactory answer.
While posted in Firozabad district in 2024, SDM Vivek Rajput was suspended on charges of land corruption. In July 2024, a preliminary investigation was conducted following a complaint regarding approximately 75 bighas of land in Rudhaini village under Shikohabad tehsil in Firozabad district. This revealed allegations of irregularities in land documents and the mutation process.
Following this, the then SDM Vivek Rajput, the Naib Tehsildar, the Kanungo, and several other employees were suspended. The government later handed over the investigation to the Vigilance Department.
During the investigation, the Vigilance Department examined records related to Vivek Rajput’s income, property acquisition, and maintenance.
It was discovered that his total legal income during the investigation period was approximately ₹38.87 lakh, while expenditures on property acquisition and maintenance exceeded ₹1.09 crore. The agency claims a disproportionate difference of approximately ₹70.92 lakh.
The investigating agency sought an explanation from the SDM regarding the discrepancy between income and expenditure. According to the Vigilance Department, the response was unsatisfactory. Following this, action was taken under the Prevention of Corruption Act on government instructions. The case was filed by Inspector Ravi Shankar Pandey of the Vigilance Sector, Agra.
