National Shame: 🏫 Bihar police detains three minors in Jamui molestation case
Patna, September 21: The Bihar police took cognizance after a viral video of molestation and misbehavior with a minor surfaced in Jamui district, detaining three minors while identifying two other accused who are currently being searched for.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the leadership of the female Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jamui to investigate the matter. Police have begun preparations for a speedy trial in the case and have also stated that action will be taken against those who circulated the objectionable video.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law and Order KS Anupam said on Monday that three minors have been detained in the case so far. Two other youths have been identified and efforts are underway to arrest them.
Jamui Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwajeet Dayal stated that the incident occurred on September 19th and an FIR has been registered. He added that after the FIR was filed, the scene was inspected and the incident was reconstructed to identify the individuals seen in the video. An SIT led by the SDPO Jamui has been formed to arrest the absconding accused.
According to the SP, based on the viral video, the police contacted the victim. The victim stated that the incident occurred around 7 pm on September 19th. Initially, an FIR was filed against unknown individuals based on her father’s statement. Subsequently, based on the video and photographs, the suspects were identified and action was taken.
Apsara, Chairperson of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, has also taken cognizance of the matter. She has sent a letter to the Jamui SP demanding immediate action. According to the Commission, a video went viral of a 10th-grade student allegedly being assaulted and molested by some men while returning from coaching in Jamui city via Madwa Pahad at around 7 pm on September 19th.
Rahul Gandhi demands action
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also demanded answers from the Bihar government regarding the matter. He said that every person seen in the viral video should be identified and arrested, and that the accused should be prosecuted under the POCSO Act and punished swiftly. He questioned why, if the incident occurred on September 19th, the accused have not yet been arrested. He also asked why no girl is safe on the state’s streets at 7 pm.
According to the police, the investigation into the case is underway, and based on the video, other suspects are being identified and action is being taken against them. The role of those involved in the broadcast of the objectionable video is also being investigated.
