Accused tried to tarnish police officer’s image using AI, says Delhi Police

New Delhi, October 5: The Delhi Police has arrested 24-year-old Naseem for allegedly circulating a fake and offensive poster created using artificial intelligence (AI) on the internet to tarnish the image of a police officer.

The accused digitally created poster depicted the officer sexually assaulting a woman. Following his arrest, the accused was produced in a local court, where the police remanded him for questioning and further investigation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjeet, while disclosing the case in a press conference, said that the accused, Naseem, is a 10th-grade failure, but used to present himself as a freelance journalist on social media. He started an Instagram channel in April this year, which has approximately 24,000 followers and 1,226 posts. The police have seized his mobile phone and are conducting a technical investigation of his social media handles, posts, and messages.

According to investigating officers, Naseem misused modern AI tools to create this offensive graphic poster. The police clarified that this was not a depiction of any real incident but a deliberate digital forgery. Its purpose was to seriously damage the image of a police officer and spread misinformation among the public.

This incident comes against the backdrop of allegations of misconduct by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with a female journalist during a protest in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the same period, numerous objectionable and misleading material targeting the officer was circulated on the internet.

Police are now investigating whether an organized group or a larger conspiracy was involved in the creation and virality of the fake poster. Forensic investigations of the accused’s digital footprints are underway to determine who commissioned the poster and from which accounts it was initially circulated.
