Convoy crash during Rahul Gandhi’s Sultanpur visit triggers high-level probe
Lucknow, October 26: The Uttar Pradesh police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the collision between vehicles in the convoy of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi while he was traveling to Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Formed on the instructions of Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna, the team will conduct a detailed investigation into the causes, circumstances, and possible lapses in security and traffic arrangements.
Rahul Gandhi was traveling by road to appear before the Special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur on Monday. During this time, vehicles in Rahul Gandhi’s convoy collided on the Purvanchal Expressway.
According to an order issued by the Police Headquarters (HQ) on Monday, the SIT will be headed by Lucknow Range Inspector General of Police Kiran S. The team includes Sultanpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Brij Narayan Singh, and Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Krishna Chaturvedi. The SIT will investigate the actual causes of the accident and the circumstances surrounding it. It will also examine the security, escort, and traffic management arrangements during Rahul Gandhi’s visit. The investigation will attempt to determine whether any negligence or security lapses contributed to the incident.
The Police HQ has directed the SIT to comprehensively investigate all aspects of the incident and provide a detailed report as soon as possible. It has also been asked to provide necessary suggestions to prevent similar incidents in the future. Given the sensitivity of the incident, the investigation team’s report will assess the facts and systemic deficiencies surrounding the accident.
