‘The Bengal Files’ ready for release in West Bengal
Vivek Agnihotri’s acclaimed film “The Bengal Files” is once again in the headlines. Released in September 2025, the film faced widespread protests and controversy in West Bengal, leading to a halt to its release. Now, according to reports, a special screening of the film will be held at a Kolkata cinema on May 8th.
The film will be screened at Priya Cinemas in Kolkata. Cinema operator Arijit Dutta stated that despite receiving censor board approval, the film was not allowed to be released in the state due to political reasons. He also stated that negotiations are underway with other cinemas across Bengal to screen the film, not just in Kolkata.
Vivek Agnihotri has previously spoken openly on this issue. He claimed that the film’s trailer launch was stopped, an FIR was filed against him, and he faced protests. The director said that now the audience in Bengal will finally get a chance to see the film and form their own opinion.
